Saint Nicholas, Bishop & Confessor

INTROIT. Statuit ei. Ecclus. 45.
THE Lord made with him a covenant of peace and made him the chief of his people: that he should have the dignity of the priesthood for ever. Ps. 132. Lord, remember David: and all his trouble. V. Glory be.

O GOD, who didst adorn thy blessed Bishop, Saint Nicholas, with power to work many and great miracles: grant, we beseech thee; that by his prayers and merits we may be delivered from the fires of everlasting torment. [Through]

The Epistle. Hebrews 13:7-13
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.
9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.
11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account.

GRADUAL. Ps. 89. I have found David my servant: with my holy oil have I anointed him: my hand shall hold him fast, and my arm shall strengthen him. V. The enemy shall not be able to do him violence, the son of wickedness shall not hurt him.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Ps. 92. The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree: and shall spread abroad like a cedar in Libanus. Alleluia.

GOSPEL. St Matthew 25:14-23
14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

OFFERTORY. Ps. 89. My truth also and my mercy shall be with him: and in my Name shall his horn be exalted.

SANCTIFY, O Lord, we beseech thee, these our oblations, which we offer unto thee, on this festival of thy blessed Bishop, Saint Nicholas: that by the same in all times of adversity and prosperity our life may be governed in accordance with thy will. Through.

COMMUNION. Ps. 89. I have sworn once by my holiness: his seed shall endure for ever: and his seat is like as the sun before me. He shall stand fast for evermore as the moon: and as the faithful witness in heaven.

GRANT, O Lord, we pray thee, that like as we, remembering the festival of Saint Nicholas thy Bishop: have partaken of this sacrifice; so we may thereby be defended with thine everlasting protection. Through.
