Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ

INTROIT. Redemisti. Rev. 5
THOU hast redeemed us, O Lord, by thy Blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation: and hast made us a kingdom for our God. Ps. 89. My song shall be alway of the loving-kindness of the Lord: with my mouth will I ever be shewing thy truth from one generation to another. V. Glory be.

The Collect.
Almighty and everlasting God, who didst ordain that thine only begotten Son should be the Redeemer of the world, and hast vouchsafed to accept his Blood as the propitiation for our sins: mercifully grant that we who here rejoice to honour that Blood, the price of our salvation; may be defended by its power in this present world, and rejoice in the everlasting fruits thereof in the world to come. Through the same.

The Epistle. Hebrews 9:11-15
11 BRETHREN: Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

GRADUAL. 1 John 5. This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ: not by water only, but by water and blood. V. There are three that bare record in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. and these three are one. And there are three that bare witness in earth: the Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood: and these three agree in one.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. Alleluia.

In Votive Masses after Septuagesima:

GRADUAL. 1 St. John 5, as above, but omitting Alleluia and the verse following.

TRACT. Ephes. 1. God hath made us accepted in his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption through his Blood. V. The forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace, wherein he hath abounded toward us. V. Rom. 3. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption, that is in Christ Jesus. V. Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his Blood.

In Votive Masses in Eastertide is said:
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Rev. 5. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy Blood. Alleluia. V. Exod. 12. The blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you: and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you. Alleluia.

The Gospel. St John 19:30-35a
30 At that time: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true.

OFFERTORY. 1 Cor. 10. The Cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the Communion of the Blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the Communion of the Body of Christ?

SECRET.
GRANT, O Lord of Hosts, we pray thee, that in these holy mysteries we may draw near to Jesus, the mediator of our new covenant: and at thine altars be sprinkled yet again with the Blood that speaketh better things than that of Abel. Through the same.

PREFACE of the Cross.

COMMUNION. Heb. 9. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many: and to them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto Salvation.

POSTCOMMUNION.
O LORD, who hast suffered us to approach thy holy temple, and with joy to draw water out of the wells of salvation: we pray thee; that the precious Blood of our Redeemer may be in us a well of water springing up unto life eternal. Through the same.
