INTROIT. Sacerdotes tui. Ps. 132
LET thy priests be clothed with righteousness, and let thy Saints
sing with joyfulness: for thy servant David's sake, turn not
away the presence of thine Anointed (alleluia, alleluia) Ps.
Ibid. Lord, remember David: and all his trouble. V. Glory
be.
The Collect.
O GOD, why by the preaching and miracles of blessed Augustine
thy Confessor and Bishop, hast caused the light of the true faith
to shine forth among the peoples of England: grant that by his
intercession the hearts of them that are gone astray may return
to the unity of thy truth; and that we may dwell together in
peace according to thy will. Through.
The Epistle. 1 Thessalonians 2:2-9
2 BRETHREN: We were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel
of God with much contention.
3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness,
nor in guile:
4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel,
even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth
our hearts.
5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know,
nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness:
6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others,
when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her
children:
8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to
have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also
our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring
night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of
you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
GRADUAL. Ps. 132. I will deck
her priests with health: and her Saints shall rejoice and sing.
V. There shall I make the horn of David to flourish: I have ordained
a lantern for mine Anointed.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Ps. 110. The Lord sware and will
not repent: thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedech.
Alleluia.
In Eastertide, instead of the Gradual,
is said:
,Alleluia, alleluia. V. Ps. 110.
The Lord sware and will not repent: thou art a priest for ever
after the order of Melchisedech. Alleluia. V. Ecclus. 45.
The Lord loved him and adorned him: he clothed him with a robed
of glory. Alleluia.
The Gospel. St Luke 10:1-9
1 AT THAT TIME: the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent
them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither
he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but
the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest,
that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man
by the way.
5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to
this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon
it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things
as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not
from house to house.
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat
such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The
kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
OFFERTORY. Ps. 88. My truth also and my mercy
shall be with him: and in my Name shall his horn be exalted (alleluia)
SECRET. We offer unto thee, O Lord, this sacrifice
of praise, observing the festival of blessed Augustine, thy Confessor
and Bishop: and we humbly beseech thee that all thy sheep which
are gone astray may be restored to thy one fold, and may be fed
with this sustenance of our salvation. Through.
COMMUNION. St. Matthew 24.Blessed is that servant
whom his Lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say
unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods (Alleluia)
POSTCOMMUNION.
O LORD, who hast refreshed us with this saving Victim: we humbly
entreat thee; that by the advocacy of the prayers of thy blessed
Saint Augustine the same may in all places be continually offered
to the honour of thy Name. Through.
