The First
Lesson
Micah 7:1-9
1 Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits,
as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to
eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit.
2 The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none
upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt
every man his brother with a net.
3 That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince
asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man,
he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.
4 The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper
than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation
cometh; now shall be their perplexity.
5 Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide:
keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up
against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
a man's enemies are the men of his own house.
7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God
of my salvation: my God will hear me.
8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall
arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto
me.
9 I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned
against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for
me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his
righteousness.
1st Lesson Questions -
Micah describes a time when there was no trust or friendship. Is today similar to Micah's day? How so? How deep are my friendships? RESOLVE.
The Second
Lesson
Romans 7:14-25
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold
under sin.
15 For
that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not;
but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law
that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth
in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no
good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform
that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would
not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it,
but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present
with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law
of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin
which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body
of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the
mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law
of sin.
2nd Lesson Questions -
When was the last time I could have said the words, "that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I"? (V. 15) How often could I say those words, in response to my life? RESOLVE.
