First Lesson
Exodus 16:1-7, 13b-15
1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation
of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which
is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second
month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured
against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we
had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we
sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full;
for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this
whole assembly with hunger.
4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from
heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain
rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk
in my law, or no.
5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall
prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much
as they gather daily.
6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At
even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from
the land of Egypt:
7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD;
for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what
are we, that ye murmur against us?
13 An in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face
of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as
the hoar frost on the ground.
15 And
when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another,
It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto
them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
1st Lesson Questions -
Why did the people start griping against Moses? Am I a bit like that, too? How so? When's the last time I did so? Who is the "Moses" I gripe against? What is the "manna" in my life which God has graciously bestowed upon me from heaven? (V. 15) RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Hebrews 4:1-13
1
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering
into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them:
but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with
faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said,
As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest:
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this
wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein,
and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because
of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after
so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice,
harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased
from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any
man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For
the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul
and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner
of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither
is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but
all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom
we have to do.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Hebrews 4:1-13. What stops a person from entering God's rest, in the end? (V. 1) Is verse 12 true in my life? Do I believe verse 13? How does my life reflect, or ignore, my belief? RESOLVE.
