First Lesson
Isaiah 40:18, 21-31
18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare
unto him?
21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told
you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations
of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the
inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out
the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to
dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges
of the earth as vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown:
yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall
also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind
shall take them away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith
the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these
things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them
all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong
in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is
hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting
God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might
he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men
shall utterly fall:
31 But
they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not
be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
1st Lesson Questions -
How can I more fully wait for God? (V. 31) What cares, concerns, preoccupations do I need to set aside, so that I have more patience in waiting? Will I? RESOLVE
Second Lesson
1 Peter 2:1-10
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies,
and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that
ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of
men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable
to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I
lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them
which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed,
the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them
which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also
they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises
of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light:
10 Which
in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:
which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
2nd Lesson Questions -
When was I made one of the people of God? (V. 10) How am I doing, regarding laying aside those things listed in verse 1? RESOLVE.
