Second Sunday after Christmas
First Lesson
Proverbs 9:1-6,10
1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven
pillars:
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she
hath also furnished her table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest
places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth
understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come,
eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge
of the holy is understanding.
QUESTIONS - Proverbs 9:1-6,10. Do I have the fear and knowledge referred to in verse 10? How far along am I in possessing them? What does verse 5 mean to me, as a Christian? Do I? How frequently? Why? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
2 Corinthians 4:1-6
1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received
mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking
in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but
by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's
conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them
which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ,
who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For
we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves
your servants for Jesus' sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
QUESTIONS - 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. Do I preach Christ Jesus or myself to others more frequently, in my words and actions? (V. 5) Am I more often in the light of Christ or the darkness of the world? What pulls me into the shadows, most often? RESOLVE.
