First Lesson
Ezekiel 14:1-11
1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat
before me.
2 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
3 Son
of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and
put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should
I be inquired of at all by them?
4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the
Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his
idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity
before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer
him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because
they are all estranged from me through their idols.
6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord
GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away
your faces from all your abominations.
7 For
every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth
in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his
idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity
before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning
me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him
a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of
my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing,
I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out
my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people
Israel.
10 And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the
punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of
him that seeketh unto him;
11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither
be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that
they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord
GOD.
1st Lesson Questions:
Ezekiel 14:1-11. What are some of the idols (V. 3) I have allowed to be set up in my heart? In what way am I a sign and a proverb for others? (Vs 7-8) What am I going to do about it? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
John 4:1-14
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that
Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar,
near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied
with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the
sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith
unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou,
being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria?
for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift
of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou
wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living
water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with,
and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living
water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the
well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this
water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him
shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall
be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
2nd Lesson Questions:
John 4:1-14. Had I been this woman, would I have understood Jesus? RESOLVE.
