Sunday After Trinity
The First
Lesson
Job 31:13-28
13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant,
when they contended with me;
14 What
then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what
shall I answer him?
15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not
one fashion us in the womb?
16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused
the eyes of the widow to fail;
17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath
not eaten thereof;
18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father,
and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)
19 If
I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without
covering;
20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed
with the fleece of my sheep;
21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I
saw my help in the gate:
22 Then
let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken
from the bone.
23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason
of his highness I could not endure.
24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold,
Thou art my confidence;
25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine
hand had gotten much;
26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in
brightness;
27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath
kissed my hand:
28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for
I should have denied the God that is above.

The Second
Lesson
1 Corinthians 13
1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have
not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all
mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though
I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth
me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not
easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things,
endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they
shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether
there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is
in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a
child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away
childish things.
12 For
now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now
I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the
greatest of these is charity.
2nd Lesson Questions -
1 Corinthians 13. When was the last time I was a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal? (V. 1) Why? We see through a glass, darkly (V. 12) How dark is my glass? Why? RESOLVE.
