First Lesson
Deuteronomy 24:10-18
10 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not
go into his house to fetch his pledge.
11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend
shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.
12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:
13 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the
sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless
thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD
thy God.
14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy,
whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in
thy land within thy gates:
15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the
sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon
it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto
thee.
16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither
shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man
shall be put to death for his own sin.
17 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of
the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:
18 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt,
and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command
thee to do this thing.
1st Lesson Questions -
Deuteronomy 24:10-18 The situations described in this Lesson demonstrate God’s care and concern for the poor and the vulnerable. What am I doing – or what can I do – to minister to the poor and the vulnerable in my community? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
1 Thessalonians 1
1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians
which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace
be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of
you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour
of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the
sight of God and our Father;
4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in
power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know
what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received
the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
7 So that ye were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and
Achaia.
8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia
and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is
spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
9 For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we
had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the
living and true God;
10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the
dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
2nd Lesson Questions -
I Thessalonians 1 It seems that Paul’s prayer life consisted of nearly equal parts of thanksgiving and petition. Do I spend as much time thanking God as I do asking Him? (VV. 2, 3) RESOLVE.
