First Lesson
Obadiah 1-9
1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom;
We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent
among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in
battle.
2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art
greatly despised.
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest
in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith
in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set
thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith
the LORD.
5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou
cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if
the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden
things sought up!
7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the
border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee,
and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid
a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.
8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise
men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end
that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
1st Lesson Questions -
Obadiah 1-9 Am I, like Obadiah, “an ambassador…among the heathen”? (V. 1) Am I sometimes reticent about sharing my faith? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
1 Peter 1:1-12
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered
throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through
sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of
the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which
according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a
lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth
not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need
be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than
of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be
found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus
Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him
not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full
of glory:
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your
souls.
10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched
diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto
you:
11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ
which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the
sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto
us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto
you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy
Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to
look into.
2nd Lesson Questions -
1 Peter 1:1-12 Do I actively maintain a “lively hope” of the resurrection? (V. 3) Do I have a longing – like the angels – to “look into” the glories of the Gospel? (V. 12) RESOLVE.
