First Lesson
Jeremiah 7:1-15
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 Stand in the gate of the LORD'S house, and proclaim there this
word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that
enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your
ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD,
The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.
5 For
if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly
execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;
6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow,
and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after
other gods to your hurt:
7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that
I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
8 Behold,
ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely,
and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye
know not;
10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called
by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of
robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the
LORD.
12 But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set
my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness
of my people Israel.
13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD,
and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard
not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my
name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you
and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all
your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
1st Lesson Questions -
Does verse 8 speak to my life, in the past seven days? How am I doing, in reference to verses 5-6? How would I have reacted to Jeremiah's sermon? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Mark 10:17-31
17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running,
and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I
do that I may inherit eternal life?
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is
none good but one, that is, God.
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do
not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not,
Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have
I observed from my youth.
21 Then
Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou
lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take
up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for
he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples,
How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom
of God!
24 And
the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth
again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them
that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,
than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves,
Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible,
but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and
have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There
is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father,
or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the
gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses,
and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands,
with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Do I trust in riches or in Jesus Christ? (V. 24) What must I leave behind? Could I do what Jesus said in verse 21? What won't I give up? Why? RESOLVE.
