First Lesson
Isaiah 54:1-10
1
Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing,
and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more
are the children of the desolate than the children of the married
wife, saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the
curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords,
and strengthen thy stakes;
3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left;
and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles and make the desolate
cities to be inhabited.
4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded;
for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the
shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy
widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name;
and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole
earth shall he be called.
6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved
in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith
thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies
will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but
with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the
LORD thy Redeemer.
9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn
that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so
have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke
thee.
10 For
the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my
kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant
of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
1st Lesson Questions -
Israel was frequently called the barren one. (V. 1) Do I ever feel barren in my faith? Why? The children of the desolate are more than of the married wife? (V. 1) What does THAT mean? Has verse 10 played itself out in my life: that is to say, do I believe it? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Ephesians 5:15-33
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as
wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore
be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord
is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled
with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting
yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the
Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is
the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the
wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of
water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not
having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should
be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that
loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and
cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and
shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and
the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his
wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her
husband.
2nd Lesson Questions -
How can I more fully understand what the will of the Lord is? (V. 17) Do I do verse 21 easily? How about all this husband and wife stuff? Is this PC - politically correct - in today's society? RESOLVE.
