First Lesson
Jeremiah 14:1-10
1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.
2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black
unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters:
they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with
their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered
their heads.
4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth,
the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.
5 Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because
there was no grass.
6 And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed
up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there
was no grass.
7 O
LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for
thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned
against thee.
8 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble,
why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring
man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
9 Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that
cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we
are called by thy name; leave us not.
10 Thus
saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander,
they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not
accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their
sins.
1st Lesson Questions -
Jeremiah 14:1-10. Is today a time of spiritual dryness, dearth? Am I contributing to it? Do I believe that God will remember my iniquity and visit my sins (V. 10), or do I think God will forget them? Can I pray the prayer of verses 7-9? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Mark 12:28-37
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning
together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked
him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments
is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:
this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour
as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said
the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but
he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding,
and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love
his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings
and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto
him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after
that durst ask him any question.
35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple,
How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?
36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to
my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies
thy footstool.
37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he
then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
2nd Lesson Questions -
How am I doing in regards to these two commandments? Which one do I spend the most time doing? Is it possible to love one's neighbor fully without loving God? RESOLVE.
