Sunday after Trinity
The First
Lesson
2 Samuel 19:16-23
16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim,
hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.
17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba
the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his
twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the
king.
18 And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's
household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son
of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
19 And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto
me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely
the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the
king should take it to his heart.
20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold,
I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go
down to meet my lord the king.
21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not
Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD'S
anointed?
22 And
David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that
ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man
be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I
am this day king over Israel?
23 Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And
the king sware unto him.

The Second
Lesson
Matthew 5:38-48
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and
a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever
shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy
coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him
twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow
of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse
you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully
use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and
sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do
not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than
others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven
is perfect.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Why should I do all these "extra mile" things? Do I? Which are the most difficult to enact in my life? RESOLVE.
