The First
Lesson
1 Samuel 16:1-13
1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for
Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill
thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite:
for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill
me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am
come to sacrifice to the LORD.
3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what
thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name
unto thee.
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem.
And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said,
Comest thou peaceably?
5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD:
sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he
sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on
Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is before him.
7 But
the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on
the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the
LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance,
but the LORD looketh on the heart.
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel.
And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath
the LORD chosen this.
10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel.
And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And
he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth
the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for
we will not sit down till he come hither.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal
of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD
said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the
midst of his brethren: and the spirit of the LORD came upon David
from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
1st Lesson Questions -

The Second
Lesson
Luke 17:20-37
20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom
of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of
God cometh not with observation:
21 Neither
shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom
of God is within you.
22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye
shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye
shall not see it.
23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not
after them, nor follow them.
24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part
under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall
also the Son of man be in his day.
25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this
generation.
26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the
days of the Son of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given
in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and
the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat,
they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire
and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his
stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and
he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
32 Remember Lot's wife.
33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever
shall lose his life shall preserve it.
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed;
the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken,
and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and
the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said
unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be
gathered together.
2nd Lesson Questions -
If the end of the age were to come today, would I be ready? Is the kingdom of God residing in me? (V. 21) How so? RESOLVE.
