First Lesson
Isaiah 52:1-10
1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful
garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall
no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.
2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem:
loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter
of Zion.
3 For
thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and
ye shall be redeemed without money.
4 For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime
into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them
without cause.
5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people
is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them
to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is
blasphemed.
6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall
know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is
I.
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth
good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings
of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy
God reigneth!
8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together
shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD
shall bring again Zion.
9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem:
for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the
nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation
of our God.
1st Lesson Questions -
Have I, like Jerusalem, been redeemed without money? (V. 3) How? What is my response to that fact, in life? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
John 20:24-31
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with
them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen
the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands
the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the
nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and
Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and
stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold
my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side:
and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou
hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have
believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have
life through his name.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Where was Thomas the first time Jesus appeared to the disciples? Why? Am I like that, too? How often do I stay away from the Church? Do I follow my bounden duty to worship God every Sunday in His Church? (p. 291, Book of Common Prayer) RESOLVE.
