Ps 112. Beatus vir.
Ps 113. Laudate, pueri.
First Lesson
Exodus 3:1-15
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest
of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert,
and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire
out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight,
why the bush is not burnt.
4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called
unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses.
And he said, Here am I.
5 And
he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy
feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face;
for he was afraid to look upon God.
7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my
people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason
of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians,
and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a
large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place
of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is
come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the
Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that
thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out
of Egypt.
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh,
and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall
be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought
forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children
of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath
sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name?
what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus
shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me
unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto
the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent
me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial
unto all generations.
Second Lesson
Mark 1:14-20
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee,
preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God
is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew
his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make
you to become fishers of men.
18 And
straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James
the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the
ship mending their nets.
20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father
Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
MORNING
PRAYER (Abbreviated Version)
MORNING PRAYER (Full Version) (St James the Apostle, July 25)
Ps 34. Benedicam Dominum.
First Lesson
Jeremiah 45
1 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son
of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth
of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah
king of Judah, saying,
2 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;
3 Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief
to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
4 Thus
shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which
I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted
I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for,
behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but
thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither
thou goest.
Second Lesson
1 Peter 1:22-2:10
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through
the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love
one another with a pure heart fervently:
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the
flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof
falleth away:
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the
word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
1 Wherefore
laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and
envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that
ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of
men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable
to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I
lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them
which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed,
the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them
which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also
they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises
of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people
of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
EVENING
PRAYER (Abbreviated

(St James the Apostle, July 25)
Ps 33. Exultate, justi.
First Lesson
Jeremiah 26:8-15
8 Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking
all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people,
that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him,
saying, Thou shalt surely die.
9 Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This
house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without
an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah
in the house of the LORD.
10 When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came
up from the king's house unto the house of the LORD, and sat
down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house.
11 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and
to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he
hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your
ears.
12 Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people,
saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against
this city all the words that ye have heard.
13 Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the
voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the
evil that he hath pronounced against you.
14 As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth
good and meet unto you.
15 But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall
surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city,
and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath
sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
Second Lesson
Matthew 10:16-32
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But
beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils,
and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my
sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what
ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what
ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father
which speaketh in you.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and
the father the child: and the children shall rise up against
their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he
that endureth to the end shall be saved.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another:
for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities
of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above
his lord.
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and
the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the
house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that
shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what
ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to
kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them
shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Whosoever
therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also
before my Father which is in heaven.
