First Lesson
Joshua 1:1-9
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came
to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses'
minister, saying,
2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this
Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give
to them, even to the children of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that
have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river,
the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the
great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There
shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of
thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will
not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt
thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their
fathers to give them.
7 Only
be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe
to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded
thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that
thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 This
book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt
make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage;
be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God
is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
1st Lesson Questions -
Does V. 5 apply to me? Am I living out V. 7 in my life? What "book of the law" do I follow? (V. 8) RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
2 Timothy 2:1-13
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ
Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses,
the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach
others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus
Christ.
4 No
man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this
life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned,
except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the
fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in
all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised
from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evildoer, even unto bonds;
but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore
I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also
obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall
also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him,
he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny
himself.
2nd Lesson Questions -
What affairs of this life (V. 4) attempt to entangle me? How am I doing, in reference to Vs. 10-12? What do I need to do in order to more fully respond in an affirmative way to Christ in my life? RESOLVE.
