First Lesson
Amos 7:10-17
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of
Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst
of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his
words.
11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and
Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away
into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13 But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the
king's chapel, and it is the king's court.
14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet,
neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer
of sycamore fruit:
15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD
said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest,
Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the
house of Isaac.
17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot
in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the
sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt
die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity
forth of his land.
1st Lesson Questions -
Is a prophetic voice always hard for people to listen and respond to appropriately? Why? Do I think Amos had many friends? Did he care? What was the most important thing in his life? How does my life stack up, in comparison to his? Do I have as clear an understanding of my mission in life as he did? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Galatians 5:1-12
1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made
us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ
shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that
he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are
justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness
by faith.
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing,
nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey
the truth?
8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be
none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his
judgment, whosoever he be.
11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet
suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
12 I
would they were even cut off which trouble you.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Am I standing fast (V. 1) or sitting slow in Christ? What did Paul mean in V. 12? RESOLVE.
