First Lesson
Amos 5:14-24
14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD,
the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
15 Hate
the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate:
it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the
remnant of Joseph.
16 Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus;
Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the
highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning,
and such as are skilful of lamentation to Wailing.
17 And
in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee,
saith the LORD.
18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end
is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went
into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent
bit him.
20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light?
even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21 I
hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your
solemn assemblies.
22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings,
I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings
of your fat beasts.
23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will
not hear the melody of thy viols.
24 But
let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty
stream.
1st Lesson Questions -
Do I hate evil (V. 15) or do I simply put up with it? Am I ready for God to pass through my life? (V. 17)
Which do I spend more time doing - righteousness and judgment (V. 24) or those things mentioned in Vs. 21-23? RESOLVE.
Second
Lesson
Galatians 3:19-29
19
Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,
till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it
was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for
if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily
righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise
by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up
unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ,
that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For
ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have
put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor
free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in
Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs
according to the promise.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Do I live life - outwardly and inwardly - based on a firm belief that I am a child of God, (V. 26) or is my faith not strong enough to do that? Who is this mediator of which V. 19 speaks? Is he at work in my life? RESOLVE.
