Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Double of I Class with common Octave

INTROIT. Gaudeamus.
REJOICE we all in the Lord, keeping holy-day in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary: in whose Assumption the Angels rejoice and glorify the Son of God. Ps. 45. My heart is inditing of a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made unto the king. Glory be.

The Collect.
WE BESEECH thee, O Lord; mercifully to forgive the sins of thy people; that we, who of ourselves can do nothing that is acceptable unto thee, my be succoured by the intercession of the Mother of thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Who liveth and reigneth with thee.

The Epistle. Ecclesiasticus 24.7
WITH all these things I sought rest, and in whose inheritance shall I abide? So the Creator of all things gave me a commandment: and he that made me caused my tabernacle to rest, and said: Let thy dwelling be in Jacob, and thine inheritance in Israel. He created me from the beginning before the world, and I shall never fail. In the holy tabernacle I served before him: and so was I established in Sion. Likewise in the beloved city he gave me rest, and in Jerusalem was my power. And I took root in an honourable people, even in the portion of the Lord's inheritance. I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, and as a cypress tree upon the mountains of Hermon. I was exalted like a palm tree in Engaddi, and as a rose plant in Jericho. As a fair olive tree in a pleasant field, and grew up as a plane tree by the water. I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aspalathus: and I yielded a pleasant odour like the best myrrh.

GRADUAL. Ps. 45. Because of the word of truth, of meekness, and righteousness: and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. V. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, incline thine ear: so shall the king have pleasure in thy beauty.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Mary is taken up into heaven: the company of the Angles is joyful. Alleluia.

The Gospel. St Luke 10.38
At that time: Jesus entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house; and she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and hear his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving: and came to him and said: Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful. And Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

OFFERTORY. Mary is taken up into heaven: the Angels rejoice and glorify the Lord. Alleluia.

SECRET.
WE pray thee, O Lord, that the prayers of the Mother of God may avail for the succour of thy people: that we, who do acknowledge her to have departed this life by reason of the condition of our mortal frailty, may feel the effectual succour of the intercession which she offereth unto thee in thy heavenly glory. Through the same.

PREFACE of our Lady, And that n the Assumption, which is said throughout the Octave in all Masses which do not require a different Preface, in accordance with the Rubrics.

COMMUNION. St. Luke 10. Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall never be taken away from her.

POSTCOMMUNION.
O LORD, who hast vouchsafed to make us partakers of thy heavenly banquet: we humbly beseech thee; that we who here observe the Assumption of the Mother of God, may by her intercession be delivered from all the evils that beset us. Through the same.

During the Octave of the Assumption of our Lady, and on the Octave Day, the same Mass is said as on the Feast. And during the Octave, Collect 2 is of the Holy Ghost, 3 of the Church, as in the Saturday Masses of B.V.M.
