Holy Name of Jesus
INTROIT. In Nomine Jesus. Phil. 2.
AT the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven,
and things in earth, and things under the earth: and every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God
the Father. Ps. 8. O Lord our Governour, how excellent
is thy Name in all the world. V. Glory be.
COLLECT.
O GOD, who didst ordain that thine only-begotten Son should
be the Saviour of the world, and didst command that his Name
should be called Jesus: mercifully grant, that we who worship
his holy Name on earth, may at length behold him face to face
in heaven. Where he liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity...
The Epistle. Acts 4:8-12
8 IN those days: Peter, filled
with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people,
and elders of Israel,
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent
man, by what means he is made whole;
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel,
that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified,
whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand
here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders,
which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none
other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
GRADUAL. Ps. 106. Deliver us, O Lord our God, and gather us from
among the heathen: that we may give thanks unto thy holy Name,
and make our boast of thy praise. V. Is. 63. Thou, O Lord,
art our Father, our Redeemer: thy Name is from everlasting.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Ps. My mouth shall speak the praise
of the Lord, and let all flesh give thanks unto his holy Name
for ever and ever.
In Votive Masses, after Septuagesima,
instead of the Alleluia, and
verse following, is said:
TRACT. Ps. 80 and Cant.
2. Turn us again, O Lord
God of Hosts: shew the light of thy countenance, and we shall
be whole: let me hear thy voice. For sweet is thy voice, and
thy countenance is comely. V. Cant. 1. Thy Name, O Jesu,
is an ointment poured forth: therefore do the virgins love thee.
In Votive Masses, in Eastertide, instead of the Gradual,
is said:
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Ps. 145. My mouth shall speak
the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh give thanks unto his
holy Name for ever and ever. Alleluia. V. ibid. I will
magnify thee, O God my king: and I will praise thy Name, O Jesu,
for ever and every. Alleluia.
The Gospel. St Luke 2. 21
21 And when eight days were accomplished
for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS,
which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the
womb.
OFFERTORY. Ps. 86. I will thank thee, O Lord my God, with all my
heart, and will praise thy Name for evermore: for thou, Lord,
art good and gracious: and of great mercy unto all them that
call upon thee, alleluia.
SECRET.
MOST merciful God, who by thy
heavenly benediction preservest all things that thou hast created:
sanctify therewith, we beseech thee, this our sacrifice, which
we offer unto the glory of the Name of thy Son Jesus Christ our
Lord; that the same may be acceptable unto thee for the praise
of thy divine majesty, and be profitable unto us for the obtaining
of everlasting salvation. Through the same.
PREFACE
for certain Feast of our Lord.
COMMUNION. Ibid. All nations whom thou hast made shall come and
worship thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy Name: for thou art
great and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone, alleluia.
POSTCOMMUNION.
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God,
who art our Creator and Redeemer, mercifully have respect unto
these our prayers: and behold with the favour of thy countenance
the sacrifice of our salvation, which we offer unto thy divine
majesty, to the honour of the Name of thy Son, Jesus Christ our
Lord; that, by the merits of his glorious Name of Jesus, thy
grace may be in such wise shed forth upon us, that being thereby
predestined to eternal life, we may evermore rejoice that our
names are written in heaven. Through the same.
