Collects, Epistles and Gospels
for the Proper of Saints
Saint
Clement of Rome, Martyr & Bishop
Double
INTROIT. Dicit Dominus. Ex. Is. 59 and 57.
THUS saith the Lord: My word, which I have put in thy mouths
shall not depart out of thy mouth: and thy gifts shall be accepted
upon mine altar. Ps. 112. Blessed is the man that feareth
the Lord: he hath great delight in his commandments. V. Glory
be.
COLLECT.
O GOD, which makest us glad with the yearly festival of blessed
Clement thy Martyr and Bishop: mercifully grant that as we now
observe his heavenly birthday, so we may imitate his constancy
in suffering for thy sake. Through.
EPISTLE. Philippians 3:17-4:3
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which
walk so as ye have us for an example.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell
you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose
glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look
for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like
unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is
able even to subdue all things unto himself.
1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy
and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the
same mind in the Lord.
3 And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women
which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and
with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of
life.
GRADUAL. Ps, 110. The Lord sware, and will not repent: Thou art
a priest for ever, after the order of Melchisedech. V. The Lord
said unto my Lord: sit thou on my right hand.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. This is a priest, whom the Lord hath crowned.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL. St Matthew 24:42-47
42 AT that time: Jesus said unto his
disciples: Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord
doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known
in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and
would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think
not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath
made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall
find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all
his goods.
OFFERTORY. Ps. 89. My truth also and my mercy shall be with him:
and in my Name shall his horn be exalted.
SECRET.
We beseech thee, O Lord, that
thou wouldest vouchsafe to sanctify these our oblations: and,
at the intercession of blessed Clement thy Martyr and Bishop,
to cleanse us from the defilement of all our iniquities. Through.
COMMUNION. St. Matt. 24. Blessed is that servant whom his lord when he
cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall
make him ruler over all his goods.
POSTCOMMUNION.
O LORD our God, who hast fulfilled
us with the partaking of thy holy Body, and of thy precious Blood:
we beseech thee; that, like as we have performed these mysteries
with outward devotion, so at the intercession of blessed Clement,
thy Martyr and Bishop, we may attain the reward thereof in the
fulfilment of our redemption. Through.
