The First
Lesson
2 Samuel 16:5-19
5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out
a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei,
the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king
David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his
right hand and on his left.
7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou
bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
8 The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house
of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath
delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and,
behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody
man.
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should
this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray
thee, and take off his head.
10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of
Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him,
Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold,
my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much
more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him
curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
12 It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and
that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.
13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along
on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and
threw stones at him, and cast dust.
14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came
weary, and refreshed themselves there.
15 And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to
Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend,
was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save
the king, God save the king.
17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend?
why wentest thou not with thy friend?
18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and
this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be,
and with him will I abide.
19 And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the
presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence,
so will I be in thy presence.
1st Lesson Questions -
Was Absalom a traitor to David? Why? RESOLVE.
The
Second Lesson
2 Corinthians 5:11-21
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made
manifest in your consciences.
12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you
occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to
answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether
we be sober, it is for your cause.
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge,
that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not
henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for
them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea,
though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth
know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old
things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself
by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto
himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed
unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now
then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech
you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to
God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that
we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Am I Christ's ambassador, and am I reconciled to God? (V. 20) RESOLVE.
