First Lesson
Isaiah 42:10-17
10
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of
the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein;
the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice,
the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of
the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise
in the islands.
13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up
jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall
prevail against his enemies.
14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained
myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy
and devour at once.
15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their
herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up
the pools.
16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I
will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make
darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These
things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
17 They
shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust
in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
1st Lesson Questions -
Do I sing a new song? (V. 10) What have I given to God that is uniquely mine? What graven images are prevalent in our day? (V. 17) Which ones are present in my house? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
1 Peter 2:18-25
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only
to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God
endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults,
ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer
for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered
for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered,
he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth
righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,
that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:
by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 For
ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the
Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Do I like being called one of God's sheep? (V. 25) If not, why not? What do I need to do in life, in order to be more like Jesus? Will I? When? RESOLVE.
