First Lesson
Wisdom 2:23-3:9
23 For God created man to be immortal, and made him to be an
image of his own eternity.
24 Nevertheless through envy of the devil came death into the
world: and they that do hold of his side do find it.
1 But
the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there
shall no torment touch them.
2 In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure
is taken for misery,
3 And their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are
in peace.
4 For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their
hope full of immortality.
5 And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded:
for God proved them, and found them worthy for himself.
6 As gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and received them
as a burnt offering.
7 And in the time of their visitation they shall shine, and run
to and fro like sparks among the stubble.
8 They shall judge the nations, and have dominion over the people,
and their Lord shall reign for ever.
9 They that put their trust in him shall understand the truth:
and such as be faithful in love shall abide with him: for grace
and mercy is to his saints, and he hath care for his elect.

Second Lesson
Romans 1:1-12
1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated
unto the gospel of God,
2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of
the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to
the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience
to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 To
all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace
to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that
your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel
of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always
in my prayers;
10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have
a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual
gift, to the end ye may be established;
12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the
mutual faith both of you and me.
2nd Lesson Questions -
What is it to be counted as one called to be saints? (V. 7) Am I so called? RESOLVE.
