First Lesson
Jeremiah 17:5-14
5
Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man,
and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the
LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not
see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in
the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope
the LORD is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth
out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh,
but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the
year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
9 The
heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked:
who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give
every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of
his doings.
11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so
he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in
the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
12 A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of
our sanctuary.
13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be
ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the
earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living
waters.
14 Heal
me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved:
for thou art my praise.
1st Lesson Questions -
Do I trust more in man or God? (Vs. 5-6) Why? Is my heart deceitful? (V. 9) Do I believe God knows my heart? Have I ever said words akin to verse 14 to God? If not, why not? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Mark 13:24-37
24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be
darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are
in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds
with great power and glory.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together
his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the
earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet
tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come
to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass,
till all these things be done.
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass
away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the
angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time
is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left
his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man
his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the
house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing,
or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Jesus was talking about the end. If I relate this passage to my personal life and death, would I change anything in my life? What? Am I watching? For what? What will be my response to Christ, on that glorious day when I see Him face to face? RESOLVE.
