First Lesson
Jeremiah 28:1-2,10-17
1 And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the
reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the
fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which
was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the
presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying,
I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
10 Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet
Jeremiah's neck, and brake it.
11 And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying,
Thus saith the LORD; Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space
of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
12 Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the prophet,
after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off
the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
13 Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast
broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes
of iron.
14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have
put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they
may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve
him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.
15 Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet,
Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest
this people to trust in a lie.
16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from
off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because
thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.
17 So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh
month.
1st Lesson Questions -
Am I anything like Hananiah the prophet? How so? Are there any modern-day Hananiahs? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
John 12:20-33
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship
at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida
of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip
tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the
Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall
into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it
bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He
that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life
in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there
shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father
honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save
me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven,
saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that
it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me,
but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of
this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men
unto me.
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
2nd Lesson Questions -
How do I enact in my life the truths of verse 25? Which do I live more - the temporal life or my life in Christ? Does my life ALWAYS reflect that? How often do my actions and words betray me? RESOLVE.
