The First
Lesson
1 Samuel 9:22-27
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into
the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them
that were bidden, which were about thirty persons.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave
thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon
it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which
is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath
it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people.
So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
25 And when they were come down from the high place into the
city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring
of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house,
saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they
went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
27 And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel
said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed
on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may show thee the word
of God.
1st Lesson Questions -
God set Saul aside to become king. Does God still set people aside for special ministries? What's He have in store for me? RESOLVE.
The Second
Lesson
Luke 14:1-14
1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the
chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched
him.
2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the
dropsy.
3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying,
Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him,
and let him go;
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or
an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out
on the sabbath day?
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when
he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down
in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be
bidden of him;
9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this
man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room;
that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend,
go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of
them that sit at meat with thee.
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that
humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a
dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither
thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee
again, and a recompence be made thee.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the
lame, the blind:
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee:
for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
2nd Lesson Questions -
How's my humility? How proud of it am I? RESOLVE.
