First Lesson
Amos 7:1-8 & 8:1-3
1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shown unto me; and, behold, he formed
grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter
growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.
2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating
the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech
thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
3 The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.
4 Thus hath the Lord GOD shown unto me: and, behold, the Lord
GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep,
and did eat up a part.
5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall
Jacob arise? for he is small.
6 The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the
Lord GOD.
7 Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall
made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said,
A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline
in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them
any more:
1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shown unto me: and behold a basket of
summer fruit.
2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of
summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon
my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day,
saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every
place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
1st Lesson Questions -
The plumb line tells us that Israel would be measured for destruction. Did that happen? What is the "plumb line" of my life? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Galatians 1:1-10
1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus
Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of
Galatia:
3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our
Lord Jesus Christ,
4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from
this present evil world, according to the will of God and our
Father:
5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you
into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and
would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel
unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be
accursed.
9 As
we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other
gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For
do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for
if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Is there another gospel being preached today? (V. 9) How would I describe its message? Do I attempt to please men or Christ more often? (V. 10) Why? RESOLVE.
