First Lesson
Amos 1:1-5,13-2:3
1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which
he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel,
two years before the earthquake.
2 And he said, the LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice
from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn,
and the top of Carmel shall wither.
3 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus,
and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because
they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall
devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant
from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from
the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity
unto Kir, saith the LORD.
13 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children
of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;
because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that
they might enlarge their border:
14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall
devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle,
with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes
together, saith the LORD.
1 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and
for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because
he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:
2 But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces
of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and
with the sound of the trumpet:
3 And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will
slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.
1st Lesson Questions -
God's standards are for all people. How does the LORD feel about the country in which I live and what it is doing in our day? Is God pleased, or do we have punishment awaiting? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Galatians 1:11-24
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached
of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it,
but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews'
religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of
God, and wasted it:
14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in
mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions
of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's
womb, and called me by his grace,
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the
heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles
before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter,
and abode with him fifteen days.
19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's
brother.
20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God,
I lie not.
21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria, and Cilicia;
22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which
were in Christ:
23 But
they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past
now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
24 And
they glorified God in me.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Does anyone glorify God in me? (V. 24) If not, why not? Is my past anything like Paul's? Do I now live the faith which I once attacked? (V. 23) RESOLVE.
