First Lesson
Genesis 9:8-17
8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your
seed after you;
10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl,
of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from
all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all
flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall
there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make
between me and you and every living creature that is with you,
for perpetual generations:
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token
of a covenant between me and the earth.
14 And
it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that
the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you
and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall
no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it,
that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and
every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant,
which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon
the earth.
1st Lesson Questions -
When I see a rainbow (V. 14), what do I think about? What have I been promised by God? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Mark 8:27-9:1
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea
Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto
them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias;
and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter
answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer
many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief
priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise
again.
32 And
he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to
rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples,
he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou
savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that
be of men.
34 And
when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also,
he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever
shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall
save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole
world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words
in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the
Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father
with the holy angels.
1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be
some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death,
till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Had I been Peter, how would I have reacted to Jesus' words? (V. 32) Why did Peter respond in that way? What is my cross, in following Jesus? (V. 34) Have I embraced it and picked it up yet? RESOLVE.
