The First
Lesson
Genesis 8:6-22
6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened
the window of the ark which he had made:
7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until
the waters were dried up from off the earth.
8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were
abated from off the face of the ground;
9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she
returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face
of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her,
and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth
the dove out of the ark;
11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her
mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters
were abated from off the earth.
12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove;
which returned not again unto him any more.
13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in
the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were
dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of
the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was
dry.
14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of
the month, was the earth dried.
15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,
16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and
thy sons' wives with thee.
17 Bring
forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all
flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly
in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons'
wives with him:
19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever
creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of
the ark.
20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every
clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings
on the altar.
21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in
his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's
sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth;
neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I
have done.
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold
and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not
cease.
1st Lesson Questions -
"Be fruitful and multiply upon the earth" was God's directive to Noah. (V. 17) Does man live that out today, or do we now have an inclination to disregard it, because of a lack of faith in and love of God? Has the world reached its saturation point with the number of people, or is it a matter of man's sinfulness that people are not being cared for in our day? What am I doing to help alleviate man's suffering? RESOLVE.
Second Lesson
Mark 8:11-26
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him,
seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this
generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall
no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed
to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had
they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven
of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because
we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye,
because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand?
have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and
do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many
baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full
of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto
him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of
the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands
upon him, he asked him if he saw aught.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made
him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into
the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
2nd Lesson Questions -
Jesus' generation sought sign after sign. Do I? When was the last time I wanted one? RESOLVE.
