Paris

Steve Sandner in Paris, 2005

For Jazz at the Church Part 2 we've got another real kicker of a jazz pianist - Steve Sandner! He hails from the Midwest and Chicago area, but now his "home base" is Sedona, although he's still running to all parts and places for gigs and recording sessions, all the while playing lots of local gigs in Arizona, too! Check his website out for the particulars... www.sandnermusic.com!

Steve started performing around the Chicago area in the mid-60's, and after majoring in trumpet at Berklee School of Music in Boston, he then studied classical piano with Dada Mehta at Eastern Michigan University and soon formed his own jazz combo, which appeared in Chicago clubs such as the Pump Room, the Gaslight Club, Andy’s Jazz Club, Pete Miller’s, and the Signature Room at the 96th floor of the John Hancock Building.

Sandner also appeared with The Marcus Belgrave Quintet at the famous Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, and, in fact, when he goes back to the Midwest this summer for some extended gigs, he'll be playing at Baker's again.

Couple that with his overseas playing - four month gigs in Singapore and Casablanca, and several appearances in Paris, France, and you've one busy jazz musician!

More information: Steve and his music, together with his gigs this month, can be found at www.sandnermusic.com

And remember, the concert is FREE!... However, if you're so moved, you can give a donation at the door ... that's how musicians get to eat so that they can keep on creating magnificent Jazz, you know... and Steve will get absolutely ALL the dinero that evening! Phat, huh? Yeah, and that's what we do when we have Jazz at the Church... all the moolah to the musicians!

+ DISCOGRAPHY +

Steve's discography includes five CDs, all of which are detailed on his website - and they'll also be available for purchase on the evening of the concert.

And to whet your appetite, take a look of the cool covers of his CDs - all of which, incidentally, were created by his son, Shayne Sandner.

And yes, that's Steve on the keyboards, and Marcus Belgrave on the trumpet, along with Charles McFarlan on the drums and Stewart Miller on bass, doing Goin' to Chicago Blues for the music playing on this page, from the CD of the same name!
