Today's Saint (Oct. 1): Remigius, Bishop & Confessor (437-553)

Remigius, bishop of Rhiems, France, is considered the Apostle of the Franks.

He was awarded this title for having converted and baptized Clovis I, king of the Franks (481-511). He subsequently baptized the king's family and 3,000 of his followers. The king's conversion was also prompted by the miraculous healing of his son and by a momentous victory over the Alemanni.

The king's wife, Clotild, who was already a Christian, no doubt had considerable influence in the king's conversion as well.

After bringing Clovis into the Faith, Remigius was able to establish numerous churches, thereby helping in the conversion of the peoples of France.
